LKS2 – Classes 6 & 7 – English

After reading the text in pairs, pupils used a range of strategies for any ‘meaning breakdown’ they had. This is when a pupil can read a word but doesn’t understand its meaning. Next, pupils annotated their extracts whenever they had meaning breakdown and used clues in the text, their background knowledge and known strategies taught in class to guess the meanings of the unknown words. Children then looked up the meanings of the words in a dictionary; being careful to choose the correct definition. We then added this new vocabulary to our word wall in class.
