LKS2 – How do your teachers look after their mental wellbeing?

Happy Tuesday everyone!

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week. It is so important to be aware of the mental wellbeing of people around you, but also to look after yourself. With this in mind, the LKS2 team would like to share some of the things that we do to help us relax, stay calm and keep our minds healthy. Maybe you could try some of them out!

Miss Evans finds that reading a good book can be really good for her mental wellbeing, as it focuses her mind and stops her from worrying about things. She also says that talking to friends and family about how you’re feeling is really important, and can cheer you up if you’re feeling down.

Mrs Horsley finds exercise to be really good for her mental wellbeing. She also says stroking her cat makes her feel calm – in fact, studies have shown that stroking and petting animals can reduce levels of stress and anxiety. So, if you have a pet, this can really help!

Mr Gamble finds walking in the woods with his dog or with his children is a great way to relax. He also suggests listening to music. You could try making a playlist of songs that make you happy, or use YouTube to find some relaxing music, such as this:

Mrs Pattison loves spending time outdoors and looks after her mental wellbeing by gardening and walking. She also says that dancing to her favourite songs makes her happy!

Mrs Colefax finds it helpful to go into her room and have some quiet time, to help her recuperate after a busy day. She also says if she’s feeling down, a happy and upbeat song changes her mindset. Finally, she says that sitting in the garden and listening to the birds in the early morning is heaven! This is something you could try next time you are outside – close your eyes and pay attention to all the sounds and smells around you. This focuses the mind and allows you space to feel calm.

Miss Boyd suggests you make sure your room is tidy and clean, as this creates a comfortable and relaxing living space. She also enjoys drawing and making things to help with her mental wellbeing. It doesn’t matter what you create – it’s just for you! Have a look at this mindful colouring, and maybe print some off to have a go:
