We have had a fantastic first week back! There has been lots of hard work, science experiments and historical roleplays!

Today, the children were historians to answer our sub-historical inquiry question of: “What was the relationship between the Vikings and the Anglo Saxons?”

The children learnt that the Anglo Saxons and Vikings became neighbours in Britain, but they did not always get along peacefully. The Vikings were focused on conquering all the English kingdoms rather than just raiding. Though, King Alfred the Great is a key individual in history who defeated the Vikings at the Battle of Edington.

Over the course of the lesson, the children learnt about the battle and gathered as much information as possible to learn about the relationship between the Anglo Saxons and the Vikings. Then, the children went outside and role-played the battle. This helped them explore the battle and the consequences of it.

Today, we started our new topic in Science this half term which is Forces and Magnets. We learned that a force is a push or pull acting on an object as a result of the object’s interaction with another object. After discussing different surfaces, we worked in groups to set up our own investigation into the amount of friction created by different surfaces. We recorded our findings in a table and then used these findings to draw simple conclusions about forces.

In computing, we have started our topic of animation. This year, we are using Pivot to make our animations. This week, we explored the program and the different ways that we can create moving pictures.

In forest school, we practised weaving. First we had to make our looms using twine and wrapping it around the sticks. Then, we had to weaved the material in between the looms. It was quite tricky, but we enjoyed being outside and using our resilience and perseverance to have a go.
