LKS2 – Newsletter – 07/10/19

What a crazy week LKS2 have had! We’ve had Music, Art and PE on Monday, Swimming for the year 4’s on Wednesday and many more activities throughout the week!

The children have been learning about climate change in Science this week. They had to think about the impact that humans have on the earth. They discussed how human actions can affect the habitats of living things, and that this can pose dangers to those living things. They learnt that global warming is causing ice caps in the Arctic to melt. To investigate the impact this may have, they made buildings out of multilink and Lego and placed them in a tray full of water. Then they added lots of ice cubes, and watched as the ice cubes melted. Over time, the water level rose.

In PE, the year 3’s have been practicing their skills indoors this week. They began to learn the importance of spatial awareness by playing ‘copy the leader’ and ‘catch the leader’. They then followed on to create their own games using skills such as weaving, throwing and catching, aiming and scoring into a net.

In Miss Briscoe’s maths, they have started to investigate length using various equipment such as, trundle wheels, tape measures, meter sticks and of course rulers! They measured a range of items from around our school,  including the football pitch, apples, leaves and  play equipment. Using their problem solving and reasoning skills, they chose which equipment would be the most suitable and which units of measurement would be the most accurate.
