LKS2 – Newsletter – 17.1.20

This week, LKS2 have started a fantastic new topic – the Ancient Egyptians!! We began the week outside, building pyramids and creating canopic jars. The children were really creative with materials, and some of the pyramids even withstood the stormy winds!!

On Tuesday and Thursday, Class 5 and Class 7 went to Leeds City Museum to find out more about the Ancient Egyptians. We saw a real Egyptian mummy that was 3000 years old!!! We also looked at some Ancient Egyptian artefacts. Then we learned how to mummify a body. We took turns pulling out all the organs and then placing them in canopic jars. We learned that there are 4 canopic jars, each representing 4 different Egyptian Gods. Finally, we made our own Egyptian jewellery which we were able to take home.

In Science this week, we have carried on our learning about light. We learned that light only travels in straight lines, and looked at how light can be reflected. Using our knowledge of how light travels, we experimented with reflecting light with mirrors around the room!

During this half-term, pupils in Year 4 will have the opportunity to take part in cooking sessions with Mrs Arnott once a week. This week, the children learnt how to prepare and make wraps, including knowing how to use knives correctly to chop vegetables and all about food hygiene, such as washing hands, tying hair up and having no jewellery on whilst preparing food.

It’s been a wonderfully busy week full of learning and new experiences! We are very proud of how the children have taken on new challenges and brilliantly  represented Cookridge Primary School.
