LKS2 Newsletter 2/7/21

Happy Friday! The LKS2 children have blown us away this week with their commitment and resilience during assessment week. It has been great to give the children the chance to show off their learning and impress us with the amount of progress they have made since Christmas! Well done to all. It’s not all been about assessments, though – we’ve managed to fit in some fun and learning as well!

On Monday, all three classes brought together their learning from our ‘Rethink Food’ sessions. These sessions have focused on sustainability and the goals of the UN to make sure we tackle climate change. The children gathered everything they have learned about a chosen Sustainable Development Goal and created presentations. There was an impressive range of posters, animations, power point presentations and videos which shared some detailed facts and figures and showed a real passion for protecting the environment!

In maths, Class 5 have been working on decimal numbers. We started by consolidating our learning on tenths and hundredths, using a place value chart and drawings. Then we moved on to ordering and comparing decimals with up to two decimal places. The children enjoyed a range of activities, including some cutting and sticking, reasoning in groups and some tasks on Purple Mash!

This week in RE, we learnt all about Judaism. We explored what happens in a synagogue, comparing worship here with worship at home, as well as describing the place of a rabbi in supporting the Jewish community. To consolidate our knowledge of a synagogue and what happens there, we made animations in groups.

This morning, LKS2 children took part in another team competition! They had to work in their team point groups to design and make a catapult. We started by discussing what a catapult is used for, and looked at various examples to pick out the key features. Then the children designed their own catapult, thinking carefully about the skills and materials they would use.  After break, the children went on to the field, collected resources and made their catapults. The morning ended with a dramatic competition, to see which team’s catapult could launch a tennis ball the furthest!

Learnatics

Well done to our amazing Learnatics this week: Husain and Sevi from Class 5, Freddie and Ami from Class 6, and Xander and Alfie from Class 7! Keep up the brilliant work!

Reminder

It is a PE day on Monday, so please send your child to school in their PE kit.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!
