LKS2 – Newsletter – 20.01.23

What a week we have had in LKS2!

The children have been working incredibly hard in their English throughout LKS2.
In Year 3, after learning about, and summarising, the events of Julius Caesar’s first invasion on Britain, the children have been writing a diary entry. They have thought carefully about their use of pronouns and written some creative pieces of writing.

In Year 4, the children have been working on inference skills. We looked at a text about Caesar and had to order some events form the text. Then we placed each event on a feelings timeline, showing how his emotions changed throughout the text. We had to write quotes from the text around each event to justify our answers. This really helped us think about Caesar’s changing emotions when writing our diary entry!
Well done LKS2!

In Geography, we looked at the position of the equator, Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn. Then we went out to the playground, drew a big globe with chalk and labelled it.

In Science, we read a text all about the different types of skeletons animals can have and learned that animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection and movement. Then we answered some questions to show what we had learned and we played a skeleton game. Using our knowledge of different body parts, we had to roll a dice and successfully build a skeleton, using the correct scientific vocabulary to do so.

In Year 3, we continued to look at multiplication and division. Mrs Jackson’s group have delved deep into division and thought about the difference between sharing and grouping. They used their skills and knowledge to answer some reasoning questions. Miss Bourne’s group have started to look at short multiplication. We had lots of practise and have to started to understand the steps needed to solve short multiplication questions.

Year 4 have thought about how short multiplication can be applied in real life situations. They decided to do some calculations to help out a school who are redesigning their playground! They had a list of how many of each playground item they wanted, and had to find the price of each item attached to it outside. Then they used their white boards to complete column multiplication and find the total cost.
