LKS2 – Newsletter – 21.06.24
What a fantastic week it has been in LKS2!
In preparation for our Viking Days next week, children have been perfecting some of the Viking crafts we have been learning about in Forest School. Pupils had the choice of weaving, plaiting or braiding material together for different purposes. First, children tried weaving using a loom created on a Y-shaped stick to practice the movement of over/under which is how the Vikings made items of clothing. Second, children continued to develop their plaiting skills in order to make bracelets and other items if jewellery whilst others took on the challenge of braiding using a trollen craft wheel. Using a wheel with eight cuts made into it, children braided seven different pieces of coloured material together following a technique in order to create a braided item. In addition to this, children also took on the role of ‘farmer’ by potting up some fruit and vegetable plants for us to sell at our summer fayre on Saturday.
Well done to all the children on Wednesday for a fantastic Sports Day! The effort, enthusiasm and engagement from all the children was wonderful to see. What a brilliant display of athleticism and skill! There was some superb long jumps, mighty throws, knock out goals and plenty of nail-biting runs (from the adults as well!)
Thank you to all the family and friends of the children who came along to support and take part! We will be announcing the results in assembly early next week.
Today, we recapped on our spellings and homophones. On the tables we had a range of activities for us to practise your homophones/near homophones. We also got a passage of writing that has both spellings and homophones spelled incorrectly. We had to correct the spellings using our spelling strategies in the margins.
Don’t forget: it’s our fantastic Summer Fair tomorrow (Saturday 22nd)! Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far.
