LKS2 – Newsletter – 4/10/19

Wow what a week in Lower Key Stage 2!

The weather was kind for Year 4’s trip to Golden Acre and Breary Marsh this week. Pupils took part in lots of activities, which included sketching maps and identifying human and physical features of the local area (geography), recording and presenting data (maths), investigating animal habitats and identifying animals (science) and playing and creating their own woodland games (Forest Schools).

Miss Briscoe’s maths groups had an absolute blast this week! Playing games to recap their knowledge of counting in multiples of 4 and 8, then completed challenges to extend their counting in multiples of 50.  The children showed great understanding with their reasoning, we even had some children prepared to become teachers and lead the class discussion!  They then used this knowledge to play a very animated game of Battlegrids working on practical and two-step problems involving multiples.

Year 4 have been working incredibly hard to master Roman Numerals this week. They have had to convert them into digits, create number sentences and solve reasoning problems

This week, year 3 took part in a super fun PE lesson. After playing some quick and exciting games to warm up, we focused on throwing and catching as our lesson skill and practiced this in pairs using a tennis ball. After, we made up our own games based on throwing and catching with an element of scoring.

Year 3 and 4 carried out investigations to group different animals into their scientific groups. We learnt the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates and then dived deeper into the five main animal groups that fall under the vertebrates classification: mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians and birds. We then collected our findings and recorded them into a table.
