LKS2 Newsletter 4/11/22

Happy Friday! It has been a lovely first week back in LKS2, here are some of the things we’ve been up to…

In maths, we are celebrating ‘Barvember’….a whole month of using bar models! Every day the children are completing a short word problem and using bar models to help them find the answer. This week the children have looked at how bar models can help in addition and subtraction, and today tackled a division question.

Mrs Greaves’ group have been busy adding and subtracting 1’s and 10’s from 3-digit numbers. We have been using our number bond knowledge to help us bridge 10 and 100. We have been practicing our times tables on TTRS and using our IT skills to answer questions on Mathletics. 

In English we have been reading our new book ‘ I was There – Boudica’s Army’. We have been looking at root words and how suffixes and prefixes change the meaning of the root words. The Year 4s created posters by cutting up words into prefixes, root words and suffixes and annotating them to show how the meaning had changed.

Year 3s spent some time matching suffixes and prefixes to root words and used these to describe an Iron Age Village. 

In PSHE, the Year 4s spent time discussing different feelings and emotions. They used a thesaurus to find synonyms for different feelings (instead of using words like ‘happy and sad’), and discussed how feelings can be felt at different intensities. They discussed how they might react when they are angry and thought about appropriate ways to deal with feeling angry. Finally, they looked at different scenario cards and used their new vocabulary to describe how each child felt in each situation. 

Finally, we held some very successful auditions today for our Christmas show! We were so impressed by the confidence and talent of all the children, and will be giving out parts and scripts on Monday.

Reminders

Please remember to sign up to a Parents Evening appointment on the school app. These are taking place on Monday 7^th and Tuesday 8^th November, and you can choose between a face to face appointment or a phone call.

Class 6 are going on a local walk in Geography on Monday, please make sure your child comes to school with a coat and sensible shoes!
