LKS2 – Science

Today, all the children in Years 3 and 4 had their final Science lesson on Rocks and Fossils. The children consolidated their knowledge of the three main areas:

-comparing and grouping together different kinds of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical properties

-describing in simple terms how fossils are formed when things that have lived are trapped within rock

-recognising that soils are made from rocks and organic matter.

They did this by taking part in an end of topic quiz on Kahoot, and completing some matching and sorting activities.

We also took this opportunity to excavate our fossils which we made a few weeks ago! The children read about paleontologists, who are scientists that specialise in excavating and examining fossils. They then chose some special equipment and excavated and analysed their fossils. The results were amazing!
