National Tree Week – KS1 – Forest School

We have kicked off our National Tree Week celebrations here at Cookridge Primary with sessions aimed at promoting, using and celebrating trees! We have played games using loose parts from trees, created dens with imaginary fires and emergency exits and played in and around the trees! Pupils also used different coloured pastels to create tree and leaf rubbings to help develop their artistic skills whilst others created trees (including their roots, branches and leaves) using loose parts on the grass. Children also had the opportunity to do some meditation in the trees using our hammocks where they relaxed and tuned into the nature around them. We also discussed the important role trees can play in our mental health and why it is important to look after the trees we have in our school grounds as well as those at home. Finally, all the children helped in potting up some tree saplings, including oak, silver birch and maple, helping them to have the best chance of survival before we plant them around the school grounds next Autumn. What a busy day KS1!
