National Tree Week – Reception – Forest School
Continuing with our National Tree Week celebrations here at Cookridge Primary, Reception have spent the morning looking at the wonderful world of trees. We have played games using loose parts from trees, begun learning how to use sticks to make simple dens and invented our own games in and around the trees! Pupils also used different coloured pastels to create tree and leaf rubbings to help develop their artistic skills whilst others created trees (including their roots, branches and leaves) using loose parts on the grass. Children also had the opportunity to do some meditation in the trees using our hammocks where they relaxed and tuned into the nature around them. We also discussed the important role trees can play in our mental health and why it is important to look after the trees we have in our school grounds as well as those at home. Finally, children helped Mr Gamble in one of our animal enclosures to dig a trench for a new hedgerow and planted some hazel and rowan trees which will hopefully grow and provide some shade and shelter for the animals in the future.
