UKS2 – Knots and Loose Parts – Forest School

UKS2 were forced inside the poly tunnel for their Forest School sessions today due to the unrelenting torrential rain. Here, we recapped the knots we learnt last year. These included the bow line, Prusik, sliding knot and clove hitch and we practiced tying them onto sticks. Next, Mr Gamble challenged pupils to use the knots in creating something using loose parts. A loose part is any material that can be moved and carried and in Forest School we look to use mainly natural loose items. They’re objects with no specific set of directions that can be used alone or in combination with any other materials and pupils have to use their imaginations and creativity when using them. Today, the children have combined loose parts and knots to make autumnal braclets and hanging decorations, houses, hammocks and even a zipwire! Well done UKS2!
