UKS2 – Natural Disaster Survival Day

Today, the children had a fantastic Natural Disaster Survival Day! Over the course of the day, the children rotated around four different activities to develop their understanding of natural disasters and how to stay safe in various situations.

In Forest School, the children considered how to cook a meal using non-perishable foods in a survival situation. They used a range of different skills, including: fire building, using a bill hook and food preparation. As well as this, they took part in an orienteering activity. Here, they used geographical skills to navigate around the school premises. searching for clues to lead them to a designated safe place to reunite with their family after a natural disaster. In class, they created a news report about the current flooding in Valencia, focusing on the causes, impact and ways to resolve the problems caused. Finally, they learnt first aid skills to help in a crisis, focusing on the’DR ABC’ method they would use if they found someone unconcscious.
