UKS2 – Newsletter – 04.04.25
What a brilliant term it has been! Well done to all the children this term for their hard work and enthusiasm for learning!
This week in Forest School, UKS2 were challenged to play! They had a range of equipment, toys and objects to use which tested their imaginations, creativity and skillset. Children could choose to develop their knowledge of knots by learning the sliding knot to allow them to put up hammocks to relax in or revisit their tool skills in trying to make a ‘Wood Cookie Figure’ using bow saws, palm drills and loppers. They also had access to den building sticks, a bag of tarps and toy animals and were challenged to go and play amongst the trees with them. Some of the dens, stories and activities they (and the toy animals) got up to was great to see and hear – we had a 5 storey animal hotel, an animal sanctuary and a den which had tripwires and traps. Children spent their sessions immersed in their activities where they role-played, created, identified and managed risk and tried new skills. Well done UKS2!
This week, we were visited again by the deputy headteacher from Ralph Thoresby High School. The children took part in a fantastic workshop focused on RE and teh RTHS value of harmony. They were challenged to create a multi-faith school in Cookridge and consider what would be important to pupil from Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths.
Spring Term’s Team point winners were Red Team. They and the 50 Team point winners were able to enjoy a day at The Big Swing – Bradford.
As usual the children and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Children enjoyed the trill of the Zip Line, The Jumping Tower, the Big Slide and smaller Jumping Tower as well as the Big Swing its self. But it’s not just for thrill seekers, Our children loved playing in the sand making the biggest moat and castle ever seen there! The children loved making and playing in the home made go-carts, they made fire and then cooked Popcorn, they loved to use the tools and creating out of wood. There was a group of children and quite a few staff, playing football all afternoon, which is a joy to watch – our younger children playing alongside our older ones, seeing how they all looked after and cared for each other, making sure they all got a turn but also incredibly competitive!! But the best time was just having the opportunity to be with friends, to see friendships grow, to see how caring and thoughtful our children are of each other. As usual the Play Bradford Staff, positively commented on the behaviour and attitudes of the children. A great day was had by all, but the question is….who will be going in July? It could be you!
We hope you have a fantastic (and well-deserved) break! Please remember that Monday 21st April is the bank holiday, so we will be back in school on Tuesday 22nd April – children must be in their normal school uniform.
