UKS2 – Newsletter – 07/06/2019

This week, year 6 were tasked with creating 3D shapes from bamboo canes and masking tape.

This week in English, Year 5 have been learning all about the effects of plastic on our planet. The children have come up with some fantastic solutions that will help our planet decrease the amount of single use plastic end up in our oceans. Over the course of next week, we will be writing letters to explain all the negative effects of plastic and to provide our great, tangible solutions to helping Leeds become a city that reduces the use of single use plastic. They have also used role-play to develop their knowledge of single use plastics and how they impact the environment.

On Wednesday morning, Year 6 were given the challenge of costing up a ‘revamp’ to the school playground. They headed out on to the playground with trundle wheels, metre sticks, pen and paper and worked in small groups to try and work out an estimate. They were given the costs of turf, artificial turf and tarmac as they used their understanding of area and money.
