Wellbeing Wednesday – Forest School

What a fantastic morning we’ve had in our Forest School sessions today. The group from KS2 enjoyed completing a project which began in January with activities leading up to the Big Garden Birdwatch and continued in February with National Nest Box week. After researching different nest boxes and good sites for them to be placed, pupils today enjoyed sanding down and putting up the nest boxes with Mr Gamble and were surprised to see both Blue Tits and Great Tits checking out the boxes and even popping inside within ten minutes of them being up. Fingers crossed for lots of baby birds later in the Spring! Another project they started today was maintaining the wild flower area by pulling out the grass which has crept into the area. Hopefully this will be finished next week and we will scatter some new seeds. The final activity pupils could enjoy was making pancakes on the fire pit. Children followed a recipe, lit and maintained the fire before helping Mr Gamble cook the pancakes. Then there was a difficult choice – what to have as a topping. Pupils had to choose from strawberry or chocolate sauce as well as lemon juice or – as some did – just put all three on at once!
