Wellbeing Wednesday – Forest School

Despite the weather, pupils loved their wellbeing Forest School sessions today. For the older pupils, we discussed emotions in depth and how to recognise and regulate them. Then, Mr Gamble set pupils a task which pupils would go onto feel frustration, disappointment, joy and success – making conker caterpillars! Using a palm drill, pupils drilled holes into conkers and threaded them on a piece of string; using knots at each end to stop the conkers falling off. During the session, pupils could recognise their feelings and why they had begun to feel a particular way before discussing how to manage these. For the younger children, we explored happiness. We talked about what it was, what it looked like, what made us happy and why it is important. Pupils then created images of things that made them happy in our earth pits in the polytunnel. It was lovely to see a wide range of things, from mums and dads to pizza and from walks up hills to playing in the park.
