Whittling Knives – Year 3 – Forest School

This afternoon Year 3 pupils continued learning how to use whittling knives safely and effectively. After recapping the tool safety talk and correct use of the knife, pupils worked in pairs to replicate our Iron Age ancestors of whittling wood into a point. Pupils learnt how to refine the technique to ensure whittling became easier, discussing how the type of wood they were using was an important factor. Next week, we are going to use these skills to create our own bows and arrows before going hunting around the school grounds just like people did in the Iron Age!
