Y3 – Fire Making – Forest School

This afternoon Year 3 continued learning how to make fire in Kelly Kettle bases in the run up to making nettle tea next week. Children had to remind themselves of the different fire lays we use in school and which ones are most suited for starting a fire in a metal base. Next, teams had to carefully build their fire lays and organise themselves into different roles to ensure their fire started. Once lit, children then had the task of keeping their fire alive by feeding it the right amount and type of fuel and the right time to grow their fire. Teams put into practice all their knowledge from previous weeks as well as on the spot learning and problem solving which helped them be successful. This all bodes well for nettle making next week – well done Year 3!
