Year 4 – Children’s Mental Health Week – Forest School

Year 4 have had a wonderful afternoon in the sunshine in Forest School. To link in with Children’s Mental Health Week, pupils began with discussing what mental health is and why it is important. We talked about why nature and being outdoors can improve mental health and how having ownership and responsibility of what they are doing can improve mental health. In the session, pupils were able to choose from a range of activities which included relaxing in hammocks, sit spotting, playing with mud, using loose parts to play games, make a magic wand using sticks and ribbon, go on a scavenger hunt, building dens and creating artwork using natural materials. All these activities promoted a range of skills including communication, co-operation, resilience and creativity. At the end 0f the session, we sat back down and discussed how each activity made us feel and what effect it had on our mental wellbeing and mindset.
