Year 5 – Campfire Cooking – Forest School
Building on their knowledge of campfires, Year 5 were challenged in teams to use kelly kettles to create hot chocolate. Making a fire lay inside a kettle base is a tricky, complicated and delicate job but one the children persevered with and, some on their fifth attempts, were all able to start a fire. Teams also worked together to use a bill hook and mallet to split pieces of kindling to make them thinner for the delicate fire lays needed inside kelly kettle bases. Remaining safe in adding the kettle, feeding the fire and managing their risk, teams then heated the water further before pouring into cups to enjoy a tasty reward for their hard work. Well done!
