Year 5 – Class 8 and 9 – Lineham Farm Residential

This week, Year 5 have been on residential. A first for Cookridge pupils in Year 5, we spent 2 and a half days soaking up glorious sunshine, amazing animals and unforgettable experiences in the beautiful and tranquil surroundings.

After the initial buzz of excitement early on Monday morning, the children were taken across to the farm in the brand new Cookridge Primary School mini bus. Our chauffeur, the magnificent Mrs Hunter, deftly manoeuvred through narrowing country lanes before we arrived at our destination.

After arrival, once bedrooms were occupied and beds were made, the children were assigned to their first activity. From climbing, low ropes and the nightline, to orienteering and river walking, Year 5 never sat still!

Climbing

Climbing was an enthralling and adrenaline pumping activity, starting with lateral traversing, then progressing to vertical route climbing and Jacob’s Ladder. All students conducted themselves sensibly and listened intently to the safety briefs provided by the activity leaders. Many of them conquered their fear of heights, scaling a multitude of vertical walls and the formidable Jacob’s Ladder.

Orienteering

A hugely popular and exhausting activity, orienteering tested Year 5’s sense of direction and map reading skills. After learning the ropes on an indoor course, we progressed to two outdoor trails. Working in pairs to score points throughout, this activity provided an opportunity for teamwork amongst the pupils.

Lineham Explorers

Delving into the nature and wildlife of the surrounding areas, Lineham Explorers provided an expert’s insight into the flora and fauna of Lineham Farm. Year 5 asked some brilliant questions and showed off their own profound knowledge of British wildlife and farm animals. After an educational and exciting woodland tour (not to mention the exhilarating river walk), Year 5 helped to put the farm animals to bed and even got to hug Lineham’s resident pig, Murphy!

Low ropes/nightline

Much like climbing, low ropes and nightline allowed the students an exciting opportunity to complete assault courses above ground, on the ground and even under it! A test of teamwork and endurance, these activities were a favourite amongst Year 5. They certainly displayed some interesting techniques!

Chill out time

After busy days filled with activities, the pupils loved their free time in Lineham’s games room. A pool table, air hockey table and table football table, alongside a range of other games and colouring books was the perfect way to kick back and relax in the evening.
